UPDATE April 2019: This post was originally published in 2012, and has gone through many revisions. However, in recent years, Sh. Omar Suleiman and the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research have conducted an impressive, in-depth study of this topic. So we have completely updated this page to reflect this groundbreaking research and the articles and videos they have published.
It’s important to note that for over 1400 years, the age of Aisha (ra) was never a topic of discussion. It’s only in recent years that Islamophobes have brought it up as a point of debate, and unfortunately it has also become a cause of doubt among Muslims.
The following video is the conclusion of a 4-part collection titled, “More Than Just a Number: Perspectives on the Age of Aisha (ra)”. In it, Sh. Omar Suleiman does an excellent job of breaking down this hotly debated topic, including the historical context of the time, and helps us end this debate, once and for all.
You can read the complete collection at this link: https://yaqeeninstitute.org/series/more-than-just-a-number-perspectives-on-the-age-of-aisha/
I checked the article you referenced about differentiating between ‘historical’ and ‘ethical/legal’ ahadith under this article’s section heading, “How Could This Happen & What Do We Do About It?”.
What you say about the differentiating is found in the article under the heading, “Age of Aisha at time of marriage with Holy Prophet Muhammad”. However, there is no reference that these were differentiated. There is an argument for the differentiation but no not reference that this was the argument used by the compilers or their acolytes. http://www.muslim.org/islam/aisha-age.htm#_ftn8
Since this is the basis for your solution to false ahadith, how do we move on?
Thanks for the post. 🙂
thank u for this, was wondering so much of the micalculation of her age, thx
The age of 19 and hisham mad memory was reported by al-tabari a prominent hadith scholar.
So this hadith is not true and others are true? But scholars dont agree with you, they say Dont be afraid, dont be afraid of the truth, the truth that Aisha moved in with the Prophet at the age of 9.
Saheeh Muslim
Book 017, Number 4194:
‘Abdullah b. ‘Abbas reported that ‘Umar b. Khattab sat on the pulpit of Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) and said: Verily Allah sent Muhammad (may peace be upon him) with truth and He sent down the Book upon him, and the verse of stoning was included in what was sent down to him. We recited it, retained it in our memory and understood it. Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) awarded the punishment of stoning to death (to the married adulterer and adulteress) and, after him, we also awarded the punishment of stoning, I am afraid that with the lapse of time, the people (may forget it) and may say: We do not find the punishment of stoning in the Book of Allah, and thus go astray by abandoning this duty prescribed by Allah. Stoning is a duty laid down in Allah’s Book for married men and women who commit adultery when proof is established, or it there is pregnancy, or a confession.
So alledgedly (and this is SAHEEH) there is a missing verse from the Quran? In the Quran Allah says that the Quran is perfect and missing nothing nor should anything be added.
“A.L.R. This is a book whose verses have been perfected” 11:1
“And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can alter His words, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.” Quran 6:115 (Read fulfilled).
And you say this hadith is not saheeh but Muslim and Bukhari is Saheeh accroding to the “Scholars”. Ergo = all hadiths from muslim and bukhari are saheeh. But nothing is missing from the Quran. Ergo = saheeh hadiths contradict the Quran. End qoute.
May Allah help us, guide us and bless us. Exahaltet is He!
